The Highest Rated Hospital in Miami-Dade County Still Produces Malpractice Cases. So Does the University of Miami Medical Campus Three Blocks Away.
Coral Gables has something no other community in Miami-Dade can claim: the highest rated hospital in the county, a full University of Miami medical campus, three private nursing homes, and a dense corridor of specialist practices along Ponce de Leon Boulevard; all private, nearly all uncapped. Baptist Health Doctors Hospital at 5000 University Drive carries a 4.8 star rating across nearly 3,700 reviews. The Lennar Foundation Medical Center and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at 5555 Ponce de Leon Boulevard are private University of Miami facilities. Coral Gables Hospital at 3100 Douglas Road and Kindred Hospital at 5190 SW 8th Street are also private. The only government entity in the Coral Gables medical landscape is UHealth Jackson Urgent Care at 3737 SW 8th Street. Every other facility is fully uncapped.
⚠ Is Your Deadline Approaching?
Florida law gives you two years from the date you discovered your injury to file a medical malpractice claim, but the mandatory 90 day presuit investigation must be completed first.

Doctors Hospital: When the Highest Rated Hospital in the County Gets It Wrong
The University of Miami Medical Campus on Ponce de Leon Boulevard
GI Negligence, Nursing Homes, Eye Surgery, and Imaging Errors in Coral Gables
DOCTORS HOSPITAL: WHEN THE HIGHEST RATED HOSPITAL IN THE COUNTY GETS IT WRONG
4.8 stars. 3,694 reviews. The best rated hospital and ER in Miami-Dade County. Baptist Health Doctors Hospital at 5000 University Drive is a private non-profit renowned for orthopedic surgery, cardiac care, and complex surgical procedures. Hospital defense counsel will cite these ratings as evidence that the standard of care was met in your case. Aggregate ratings reflect thousands of uncomplicated visits. They do not reflect the standard of care delivered to an individual patient on an individual day. We investigate orthopedic surgical errors, cardiac negligence, ER diagnostic failures, post operative infections, and medication errors. Jury verdicts are uncapped.
Coral Gables Hospital and Kindred Hospital: Two More Private Defendants
Coral Gables Hospital at 3100 Douglas Road is a private facility operated by Prime Healthcare with over 1,000 patient reviews. We investigate ER misdiagnosis, surgical negligence, and psychiatric care errors including improper Baker Act proceedings. Kindred Hospital South Florida at 5190 SW 8th Street is a long term acute care hospital operated by LifePoint Health where ventilator dependent and immobile patients are transferred after ICU stays. We investigate ventilator weaning errors, pressure ulcer negligence, premature discharge, and hospital acquired infections. Both are private with no damage cap.
THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI MEDICAL CAMPUS ON PONCE DE LEON BOULEVARD
Four UM Facilities, One Campus, Zero Sovereign Immunity
The 5555 Ponce de Leon Boulevard campus houses four separate University of Miami medical facilities, all private, all uncapped. The Lennar Foundation Medical Center provides multi-specialty outpatient care. Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center on the third floor is an NCI designated oncology facility where we investigate chemotherapy dosing errors, radiation therapy errors, and delayed cancer diagnosis under the lost chance of survival doctrine. UHealth Coral Gables at 5550 Ponce de Leon carries a 2.5 star rating. The University of Miami Student Health Service treats students under the same standard of care that applies to every other patient in Florida. Sovereign immunity does not apply to any of them.
The One Capped Facility: UHealth Jackson Urgent Care on SW 8th Street
UHealth Jackson Urgent Care at 3737 SW 8th Street is the only government entity in Coral Gables. It is part of the Jackson Health System and subject to sovereign immunity under § 768.28, which currently caps damages at $200,000 per claimant and $300,000 per incident. HB 145 (2026), awaiting the Governor’s signature, would raise these to $350,000 and $500,000. Do not confuse this facility with the private UHealth practices on Ponce de Leon, which are University of Miami entities with no cap.
GI NEGLIGENCE, NURSING HOMES, EYE SURGERY, AND IMAGING ERRORS IN CORAL GABLES
Colonoscopy Perforation and Missed Cancer: Digestive Medicine Associates on Ponce
Digestive Medicine Associates at 3133 Ponce de Leon Boulevard is a private gastroenterology practice performing colonoscopies, endoscopies, and cancer screening procedures for the Coral Gables community. We investigate colonoscopy perforation, failure to diagnose colon cancer on screening colonoscopy, endoscopy complications, and delayed follow up on abnormal pathology results. When a gastroenterologist perforates the bowel during a routine screening procedure, the patient may not realize the severity for hours or days. The procedure report and EMR audit trail prove whether the complication was recognized and addressed in real time.
Nursing Home Negligence: Three Private Facilities Serving Coral Gables Seniors
Riviera Health Resort at 6901 Yumuri Street (452 reviews), West Gables Health Care Center at 2525 SW 75th Avenue (416 reviews, with in-house dialysis), and Coral Gables Nursing and Rehabilitation at 7060 SW 8th Street are all private facilities with no damage cap. Coral Gables has an older affluent population, and the standard of care expected at these facilities reflects that community. Falls, pressure ulcers, medication errors, elopement, malnutrition, and wrongful death are subject to both medical malpractice and nursing home negligence theories under Florida law. When a facility accepts a resident and fails to provide adequate staffing, the gap between what was promised and what was delivered becomes a powerful element of the case at trial.
Surgical Eye Errors: Aran Eye Associates on Le Jeune Road
Aran Eye Associates at 1097 South Le Jeune Road is the highest volume eye care practice in Coral Gables with over 1,000 patient reviews, performing cataract surgery, retinal procedures, and LASIK. We investigate surgical eye errors, retinal detachment mismanagement, LASIK complications, and failure to diagnose glaucoma or macular degeneration. Unlike the university affiliated Bascom Palmer in Brickell, Aran is a private independent practice where the operating surgeon and the practice entity are both directly sueable defendants with no institutional buffer.
Diagnostic Imaging and Primary Care Errors on Giralda and Ponce
Baptist Health Diagnostic Imaging at 10 Giralda Avenue has over 3,000 patient reviews, making it the highest volume imaging center in Coral Gables. ADC Ambulatory Diagnostic Center at 747 Ponce de Leon Boulevard handles over 500 reviews worth of radiology volume. Mount Sinai Primary and Specialty Care at 836 Ponce de Leon carries a 3.6 star rating. When a Mount Sinai physician fails to order follow up imaging after an abnormal finding from the Baptist imaging center on Giralda, that is a system failure across two private defendants.
The Best Rating in the County Does Not Mean the Best Care on Your Day.
Doctors Hospital is 4.8 stars. UHealth Coral Gables is 2.5 stars. Kindred treats ventilator patients. Three nursing homes serve seniors. Every one is private and uncapped.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I sue Doctors Hospital even though it has the best rating in Miami-Dade?+
Yes. A hospital’s aggregate rating reflects thousands of uncomplicated visits and has no bearing on whether the standard of care was met in your specific case. Baptist Health Doctors Hospital is a private non-profit with no sovereign immunity. Jury verdicts are uncapped regardless of the hospital’s public reputation.
Are the UHealth facilities on Ponce de Leon government hospitals?+
No. The Lennar Foundation Medical Center, UHealth Coral Gables, Sylvester Cancer Center, and UM Student Health Service at 5555 Ponce de Leon Boulevard are all operated by the University of Miami, a private institution. Sovereign immunity does not apply. The only capped facility in Coral Gables is UHealth Jackson Urgent Care at 3737 SW 8th Street.
Can I sue for a colonoscopy perforation at a Coral Gables practice?+
Yes. Digestive Medicine Associates at 3133 Ponce de Leon Boulevard is a private practice. Colonoscopy perforation during a routine screening is a well recognized complication that, when caused by deviation from the standard of care, gives rise to a malpractice claim.
What nursing home negligence claims arise in Coral Gables?+
Riviera Health Resort, West Gables Health Care Center, and Coral Gables Nursing and Rehabilitation are all private facilities. Falls, pressure ulcers, medication errors, elopement, malnutrition, and wrongful death are subject to both medical malpractice and nursing home negligence theories. All three are uncapped.
Does sovereign immunity apply to any facility in Coral Gables?+
Only one. UHealth Jackson Urgent Care at 3737 SW 8th Street is part of the Jackson Health System. The current cap is $200,000 per claimant and $300,000 per incident under § 768.28. HB 145 (2026), awaiting the Governor’s signature, would raise these to $350,000 and $500,000. Every other facility is private and uncapped.
